About me

I am a quantum information theorist at the University of Cologne, where I lead the Quantum Randomness Group. My research studies the power and limits of near-term quantum computers: how random circuits approximate genuinely random dynamics, when quantum systems can be simulated classically, and how properties of quantum states can be learned from few measurements. I came to quantum information from a joint background in physics and mathematics, and I still find its appeal in that overlap — questions of real physical relevance that turn on precise mathematical structure, from representation theory to complexity. Alongside research, I enjoy teaching and supervising students, and organising workshops that bring the random-circuits community together.
